Gretsch G3161 Historic Series Streamliner, Orange (early 2000s)

The Historic Series was the short-lived line Gretsch ran around 1999 to 2003, just before the Fender partnership reorganized everything into Electromatic and Professional. The G3161 is the single-cut full hollowbody from that line: a 16" laminated maple archtop with sound-post bracing, two humbuckers and the chrome "G" cutout tailpiece, in the Gretsch Orange that the brand is known for. Historic Series guitars have a following of their own because they sit between the budget Electromatics that followed and the Japanese pro line, and they do not turn up often.

Specs

  • Single-cutaway full hollowbody, laminated maple, 16" wide and about 2" deep, bound top and back, bound f-holes, sound-post bracing
  • Maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard, 25.5" scale, 1 11/16" nut, medium jumbo frets
  • Two Gretsch humbuckers, 3-way toggle on the upper bout, master volume and master tone
  • Rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge, fixed chrome "G" cutout tailpiece, chrome die-cast tuners
  • Historic Series label visible through the bass-side f-hole; serial on the headstock back
  • Light weight for a 16" box, around 6.5 lb

Condition: Excellent. Gloss finish is clean front and back, binding intact, no cracks or repairs, hardware bright, frets show little play. Set up and checked in our shop.

Big, airy, acoustic-forward Gretsch tone with the look of the 50s Streamliners. Part of the Kuffler collection at Brothers Guitar Shop, Forest Hills, Queens.
