Sounds of the City Festival
Get Ready to Experience NYC like Never Before
The Sounds of the City Festival, a celebration of NYC Local Music! On May 9th from 1-5pm at the Central Park Bandshell, we will showcase three of the best NYC local bands and three of NYCs finest street musicians.
Our setlist includes The Phryg, Black Rabbit, Noé Socha, and more!
The Phryg (pronounced The Fridge)
formed in 2013 by two Manhattan School of Music Alumni formally trained in classical music. Their musical tastes and influences were so wide-ranging that
it lead them to form a group untethered to category or genre. This two man songwriting team produce a unique and formidable sound as heard on their debut
EP Midnight Snack and self-titled sophomore LP The Phryg. Virtuosic solos and mind-blowing jams are the hallmarks of their
live show and the band has toured the east coast extensively. The Phryg has appeared at Brooklyn Bowl (NY), The Knitting Factory (NY), The 8x10 (MD) and
has performed official after-parties for Umphrey's Mcgee and Vida Blue.
Blac Rabbit is a
pop/psychedelic band created by identical twin brothers Amiri and Rahiem Taylor
who write all of the music and record most of the songs. As a live four piece
band, the Taylors are joined by Patrick Jones on drums, and multi instrumentalists
Frank Corr, and Michael Meneses.
The New York Gremmies are a three man-act comprised of Noé Socha on guitar and harmonica, Quinn Murphy on bass and Josh Davis on drums. The Gremmies formed in 2020 and will release their debut album, “Introducing…The New York Gremmies” on September 18th, 2022 at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. The album features a mixture of original compositions in the classic California Surf style as well as Surf Noir and covers of popular artists such as The Beatles, Roy Orbison and Henry Mancini.
