1975 Gibson S-1 – Vintage Tone & Rare ’70s Mojo
Step into a unique chapter of Gibson history with this 1975 Gibson S-1, a rare gem from the Norlin era that blends classic looks with Fender-like snap and Gibson craftsmanship. Designed by Bill Lawrence, the S-1 was Gibson’s bold answer to the Strat, and it absolutely delivers in tonal versatility and vintage vibe.
This model features a solid maple body and bolt-on maple neck for bright, articulate tones with great sustain. The standout feature? The three single-coil pickups paired with a four-position rotary selector switch—allowing for an array of tones from glassy cleans to fat, punchy mids. The selector lets you choose neck + middle, bridge + middle, neck + bridge (out of phase), and all three pickups in parallel. Add in the master volume and tone controls, plus the bypass toggle switch for an extra-hot straight-to-output boost, and you’ve got a surprisingly modern-sounding instrument decades ahead of its time.
Used by legends like Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones and Paul Stanley of KISS, the Gibson S-1 made its mark on tracks that defined the mid-'70s. It’s an excellent choice for players looking for something vintage, rare, and full of character.
This guitar shows normal signs of use for its age, with honest wear that adds to its appeal. Frets are in good shape, the neck is straight, and it plays smoothly up and down the board.
