This beauty weighs in at a nice 7.8 lbs; the guitar has had one owner before coming to us and was kept in just about mint condition - we could not find any major dings or nicks that were not the result of the ultra light aging.

Masterful Re-creation of a Rock Icon
Gibson’s SG is an undisputed rock icon. Immortalized by Santana at Woodstock and brutalized onstage by Pete Townshend, the venerable SG has seen its share of front-line action. The 1964 SG Standard, in particular, has been seen in the capable hands of guitar greats such as Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Everything seemed to come together for the SG in that model year. In their wisdom, Gibson reverted back to the beloved girthy neck shape of late-’50s Les Pauls and replaced the cumbersome side-pull vibrato with the smooth and reliable Maestro Vibrola tailpiece. Today,we're excited to present to you the Gibson Custom 1964 SG Standard Reissue Ultra-Light Aged. This masterful rendition of the classic solidbody electric guitar that rocked the music world in its most influential decade celebrates its coveted progenitors in a gorgeous re-creation handcrafted by Gibson’s Custom Shop luthiers with fastidious attention to prototypical detail, top-shelf tonewoods, and a scrumptious Murphy Lab-aged finish that gives you the look and feel of a cherished vintage treasure.
Artfully aged in Gibson Custom Shop’s Murphy Lab
Under the leadership of Master Artisan Tom Murphy, Gibson Custom Shop’s Murphy Lab performs one specific function: to craft artfully aged instruments using the most cutting-edge tools available. These guitars are targeted to one of four distinct levels of age and wear, ranging from Ultra-Light to Ultra-Heavy. This 1964 SG Standard Reissue features Ultra-Light aging, with unique lacquer checking but minimal playing wear. It’s as if the guitar spent most of its life in its case. VOS patina hardware puts the final touch on this exquisite instrument.
Legendary tone from Alnico III Custombuckers
Guitarists at Sweetwater absolutely adore the Custom Shop Alnico III Custombucker pickups in the ’64 SG Standard Reissue. Each with its own volume and tone controls, these unpotted pickups will let you nail chimey country licks as easily as you dial in searing rock tones. Catnip for tube amplifiers, these Custombuckers deliver classic tone for everything from warm jazz to dirty blues. And handwired with CTS audio taper pots and Black Beauty capacitors, you’ll have nearly endless tone-shaping control at your fingertips.
Handcrafted by Gibson’s elite luthiers
Painstakingly handcrafted by Gibson’s elite luthiers in the company’s Nashville Custom Shop using only the finest materials, the 1964 SG Standard Reissue — like every Gibson Custom guitar — is optimized for playability before leaving the factory. The fingerboard is polished and beveled with rolled edges, then given the Plek Pro treatment. Plek Pro is a state-of-the-art, computer-guided process that analyzes neck relief and the height of the nut and bridge. The machine then scans, levels, and dresses your guitar’s frets to a microscopic level of accuracy for perfect intonation and ideal action with no fret buzz, loss of sustain, or fretting out when bending strings. This guitar’s Plek’d frets ensure that every note in every position rings true and clear with unblemished tone.
